The Snowflake Eel, Echidna nebulosa, also known as the Snowflake Moray and Clouded Moray. They feature an intricate black and white ornamental pattern that resembles many different snowflakes across its body. This Eel can grow up to 24 inches, and should be kept in a tank no less that 50 gallons. Eels are known to try to escape from the aquarium and can be challenging to keep, this is why we recommend a tank with a tightly sealed lid. It is also suggested to have plenty of live rock caves providing it places to hide. In a large system, and if live rock is plentiful enough, multiple Snowflake Eels can be kept together. When feeding your Eel use extreme caution, we recommend using feeding tongs to prevent being bitten, due to the extremely poor eyesight of the Eel. Since the Snowflake Eel is very hardy, active, acclimatizes well, and is easy to care for, this Eel is probably the best Eel to get if you are looking to care for your first Eel. When they are still juveniles, they are relatively docile making them one of the most popular Eel species to keep. The Snowflake Eel is not considered reef safe though, due to it's predatory nature, it will eat any small fish or invert that will fit into it's mouth. Therefor should be housed with proper tank mates, to ensure your marine life does not become Eel food. Even though the Snowflake Eel is a nocturnal feeder, they are often active and visible during the day within the live rock. They should be fed a carnivorous diet consisting primarily of live or frozen Clams, Crustacean Flesh, Shrimp, Squid, Scallop, Krill Feeder Fish, along with meaty preparations enriched with vitamins
